Adventures in Slovakia

Slovakia is one of Europe’s most mountainous countries, with lofty summits and deep-cut valleys making up almost a third of its area – a great place for active adventure whether you are on a solo holiday, travelling with a partner, as part of a larger group or on a family adventure. 

In summer, Slovakia holidays are great for adventure travel with the stunning countryside able to be explored by bike or on foot, adding a walking holiday element to Adventure Company activity weeks. Enjoy a gentle rafting trip, explore central Europe’s largest castle at Orava and go underground to visit ethereal ice caves. Still largely undeveloped, the glorious natural landscapes remain home to many animals such as chamois, marmot, lynx, eagle and wolf so keep your eyes peeled!. The mountains are also home to brown bear and conservation schemes are in place to help protect this beautiful creature in its natural habitat. For travellers particularly interested in this, it is possible to spend time with one of these projects learning about their work and how they hope to protect the bears for future generations. 

In the winter the Slovakian landscape changes into winter activity holiday heaven! Often covered in a deep snow fall, the Tatras are a far cry from the ski ‘factories’ of the Alps.  Those looking for active winter holidays, Slovakia can fill their time enjoying an exciting mix of winter sports and traditional activities, including snowshoeing, dog-sledding, skiing, and swimming in hot pools. If you’ve any energy left you can even try night skiing!
