Notes from my solo Turkey holiday

Your first solo holiday can be a little daunting. Traveling to a new country, without your family and friends is always an interesting experience. Solo holidays with The Adventure Company ensure you get the benefits of solo travel with the enjoyment of being part of a wider group.

This blog entry is from one of our solo travelers who took a holiday in Turkey. Read what she has to say about the group and the sights she saw.

This was not only my first Adventure company trip, but also the first holiday without friends or family and also the first group holiday I have been on!

The trip included a wide range of activities and optional excursions. To sum it up we did Mountain biking, Sea Kayaking, a try dive - all part of the itinerary and as a optional excursion we were able to try Canyoning.

My highlight of the trip had to be the try dive - it was something that I had geared myself up not to do but as soon as I was on that boat and having had a swim in the crystal clear warm waters of the Mediterranean I was ready to give Scuba diving a go. Although nerve wracking once I had conquered my fear and jumped into the water fully kitted out in my scuba gear I knew it was going to be a memory that will last a life time. Helped by the photos taken by one of the Scuba team I can prove to my doubtful family that I did it not only once but twice!

On our first free day, a few of us upon our group leaders recommendation decided to give the traditional Turkish baths a go. This was certainly an experience in itself if only for the entertainment as I watched one of the group members being thrown around by a rather large and hairy Turkish man! Needless to say, even after a salty rub down followed by an anything but gentle bubble massage we felt relaxed and scrubbed to within an inch of our lives.

On our last day, after transferring from the Beautiful coastal town of Kas to the slightly more touristy Dalyan we continued our skincare regime with a mud bath - possibly one of the strangest things I have ever done, and although the sun wasn't out enough on this day for the mud to dry we had fun floating around in the mud looking like creatures of the deep when we re-emerged and tried to wash all of the sulphur scented mud pack off. Followed by a dip in the hot spring baths we yet again felt relaxed and strangely pampered.

Our last night was a memorable one of Karaoke before sadly saying goodbye to Turkey the next morning and jetting home complete with a plentiful supply of Turkish Delight and Baklava - a traditional sweet pastry / pistachio combination (delicious!)

I would recommend this trip to anyone who has a sense of adventure, someone who has a get up and go attitude to life and most importantly wants to enjoy a holiday that isn't just all about sitting on a beach - although these were a nice break now and again!
