Top 5 things to do in Cuba with kids
The atmosphere throughout Cuba is vibrant and lively; it has an intoxicating feel and a visit will leave you full of historical knowledge and with a passion for dance. I love Cuba because it's a friendly, beautiful place to take your kids. There's excitement, cultural enrichment and education, plus it has some of the best beaches in Latin America. Havana has just been named world's 'best destination' according to Wanderlust readers and rightly so. It's a must for families to experience the incredible ambiance of Cuba.
Here are my top five things to do in Cuba with kids
1. Casas particulares (homestays).
A homestay is a great way to let your children make friends with the local children, learn about traditional way of life and experience the 'real Cuba'. Homestays are staying overnight with local families in their own homes with a room rented out for guests and sharing breakfast with the host family. A highlight of a family adventure for me.
The capital of Cuba and well worth a visit. Kids will love playing photographer and exploring the wide boulevards lined with 50s era classic cars, investigating the old and new parts of the city and witnessing locals dancing and singing in the street. The friendly locals are always after new dance partners and will love to show your family the ropes.
3. Cuevo del Indio in Vinales.
Enjoy a boat cruise through impressive caves once inhabited by local Indians and filled with incredible rock formations. Kids will love spotting shapes in the stalagmites, touring through the jagged caves and witnessing thousands of bats stream through the cave at dusk, on their way to feed.
4. Salto de Javira in Trinidad.
In the beautiful colonial town of Trinidad, you can enjoy a gentle hike through incredible scenery before reaching a natural pool and waterfall suitable for swimming. It's a great way to unwind after the walk and kids will love splashing around in the warm waterfall.
The typical beach destination in Cuba, but if you have time it is a great place to spend a few days with children to finish off you holiday. The ocean is incredibly shallow and warm and children will love exploring the white sands.
Enjoy exploring Cuba's exquisite beaches, learning about local culture with a homestay and investigating the historic streets of Havana on out 12-day family adventure in Cuba, suitable for families with children aged 5 and older.
