Sun, sea, culture and no adverts - welcome to Cuba

Walking down a UK high street can be a totally mundane experience, with the same shops and brands displaying their garish signs wherever you go. I could stroll along any town centre retail zone and not have the blindest clue of whether I am in Romford, Reading or Redcar. It all looks and feels the same. Perhaps this is why I find Havana so appealing. The Cuban capital still maintains its rustic Hispanic charm and the country's leaders have long resisted the urge to build a McDonalds or Primark on every corner.

Hustle, bustle and tranquillity - Morocco offers a bit of everything

I've always relished being part of a crowd, which proved to be a handy trait in the thriving markets of Marrakech. In the midst of all the action - where traditional snake charmers stand side-by-side with people selling leather purses and other authentic wares - it really is a case of blink and you will miss something. While the sight of locals and tourists bartering over a terracotta vase may be a bit of a cliche, there is something unbelievably exciting about being part of the Moroccan capital's racing heartbeat.

The Adventure Company at Trailwalker 2011

100 k. 30 hours. 3 teams. (And a whole heap of awful weather!)

Ever heard of Oxfam Trailwalker? On July 16th, three teams from The Adventure Company set off on a race across the South Downs to raise money for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

First steps

The 6am start didn’t look good. One of the worst Julys in 20 years, the rain was absolutely bucketing it down. Mud would stick to our boots and slow us down. And the wind would try and knock us down. As the whistle blew, we began what would become an epic journey.

Why Turkey is the place to go for a family holiday

We've all experienced it haven't we?

We jump off the plane full of excitement, spend two minutes throwing our cases into the hotel room and then... the other half heads straight to the hotel pool to lounge around sipping exotic cocktails all day, while reading some obscure romantic novel.
For many, this may seem like the perfect break, but not me.  Don't get me wrong, there's nothing peculiar about recuperating from the daily rigours of life in murky old Britain with a mojito in one hand and a bottle of factor 30 sun cream in the other.

Celebrating 100 years of the ultimate walking experience - Machu Picchu

What is your dream destination for a walking holiday? Kathmandu? The Great Wall of China? Mount Kilimanjaro?

Everest 2011

Trip number 3 with the adventure company was to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

This trip was immense and something i will remember and look back on forever! kathmandu was busy, dirty and a bit mad but im glad i have experienced it and seen the sights, even the cremations on the river bank. I was one of the lucky ones and managed to avoid getting ill on the trip!.

Where are the wildebeest? Updates on the Great Migration.

“The Great Wildebeest Migration, is one of the “Seven New Wonders of the World”.

No where in the world is there a movement of animals as immense as the wildebeest migration. Over 2 million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya during July through to October.

The migration is fraught with danger. They have to cross the Mara River in the Maasai Mara where crocodiles will prey on them. This is one of the highlights as the animals try and cross the Mara River alive.

Hands on experience in the Selati Game Reserve

The "Hands on" experience was amazing. We had many "encounters" with Lion, Elephant and Rhino ~ all memorable.  The prime encounter has to be this.

I was there in the Bush when they tranquillised (darted)  Mbhurri ~ a mature lion, in order to replace a malfunctioning tracking collar.

The operation initially utilised three vehicles, the Research team, which included us volunteers, a Marksman's vehicle , and a safari vehicle transporting the Vet.

Easter in South Africa

I have just returned from a whirlwind trip through South Africa's little-visited KwaZulu-Natal and all I can say is Wow!

Turtle spotting in Turkey

We went to Turkey on our family holiday this year and weren't really sure what to expect. It turned out to be a fantastic time jam packed with activities but enough time to relax and de stress (much needed)!

Our time in Dalyan was a joy and we chose to go on the river cruise which was a full day out and well worth the effort. We went to the river nice and early to get good seats and settled down ready for the journey. The first sight along the way was the Lycian  tombs - a truly spectacular ancient tombs nesstled high up in the mountain cliffs.
