Paradise found - Zanzibar
Wow, the scenery is fabulous and what a bonus it is because on the way here in the bus the buildings looked half finished and old. In reality I know it’s paradise that hasn’t yet been exploited by tourists. The palm trees and vast beeches remind me of a Caribbean country instead of beautiful Africa, though I am not complaining. In fact totally the opposite, as the sky and water is so blue in colour that it looks like they almost join together. Miles and miles of the Indian Ocean stretch before me and my heart is a bit in love with Africa. Workmen are building a pier and it seems that one man is doing all the work whilst three supervisors are watching him. Maybe they take turns as its hot or they are on what we British call ‘African Time.’ It’s sometimes hard to remember here in this idyllic setting that Africa is rather a poor country in comparison with the Weston world. Here at paradise there is a bar made out of a boat and the trip at sunset, drinking champagne, is a dream come true. The African people have energy about them that shines through; they have a willingness to help out and a good strength of character. As I see my last sunset here in Tanzania and watch yellows change into reds then black I feel a yearning to return, if not only to see the people and animals again in this lively country.
