Cutest animals in Africa - by Honey Millard, aged 10

Before we went to Tanzania, we visited Longleat Safari Park in the UK. I loved feeding the red deer from our jeep and it was fantastic when the monkeys climbed all over our car. The animals are a bit wilder in Africa, but in Longleat you are always guaranteed to see them as they don’t hide in the bush. Anyway, here is my list of the cutest animals we saw in Africa.

1. One of the cutest animals we saw in Africa, I think THE cutest was a tiny baby elephant. We spotted a tiny teeny one, just taller than some long grass. It was so sweet. We all took millions of photos of it.

2. We saw lots of monkeys. They are one of the naughtiest animals but also one of the cutest! The babies stay on their mummies in different places, depending on how old they are. For example if it the monkey baby is very young it clings to the fur on its mummy’s tummy, but as it gets older and more adventurous, it moves onto the back of her! We saw lots of monkeys hugging each other, just like we do.

3. Bush babies are another adorable animal, they are nocturnal,  have very big eyes and are very small. They have a very loud screeching sound though.

4. Baby turtles, also known as hatchlings are SO CUTE! As soon as they are born they race to the water as that is their instinct. They are about 5cm long and 2cm wide when they are born! There are quite a lot of nests, which are all protected, where we were staying on the shore of the ocean but the hatchlings usually come out in the summer. So go there in the summer!

5. My favourite deer was called a red duiker. It is so cute. It hops around like a rabbit and it looks like Little Mouse Deer, it is very small and it is always sprinting!

6. My favourite bird was the hooded crow. They are very beady eyed and have a light grey ‘hood’ on their heads. One used to hop onto our breakfast table in Zanzibar in the morning hoping to get some food. He usually did.
