Climate Week, 21-27 March 2011

Climate week is the largest environmental event of the year in the UK pulling together thousands of individuals and organisations across the country to run events and commit to actions which make us think about changing our daily behaviour to become more sustainable.

Essentially it’s collective small actions which become the catalyst for big changes.

At The Adventure Company we have a list of pledges which we are committing to. Please join us and make a pledge - and don't forget to tell your friends.

We hope to continue this each month, so don't forget to keep an eye on how we're getting on, and feel free to make new suggestions on what we can all do to make a difference.

Our Climate Week  21 – 27 March Pledges

Just some of the ideas we've got for reducing our environmental impact - feel free to suggest more, or make up your own!

I/my dept will not use the printer all day

I/my dept will talk to colleagues in the office face to face rather than calling for a day(s)

I will turn off all electrical equipment off in my house (bar lights) for a designated amount of time

I will use public transport or organise a lift share for journeys to work

I will go veggie for a day(s)

I will eat so many meals from a local farmers market

For us we’ll get produce from one of the following markets http://www.hampshirefarmersmarkets.co.uk/

I am dog sitting locally for the week so this will cut my daily commute from 50 miles a day to about 5.

I'm already a vegetarian but I will buy local produce for the week.

I will get up and talk to my colleagues instead of making internal calls and I will turn off the heating in the house and snuggle up to the dog for warmth!

I will definitely walk to work every day and to the bar! I already do this but will do so even more; fill up a watering can from my water butt outside and use this to flush the toilet. Will make a big batch of veg soup to last a couple of days, probably not for breakfast though! I will also plant some vegetable seeds and shave my head for aerodynamics!
By the way, I know printers are bad but I think it's a bit harsh to take legal action against ours Nicky?!

I'll properly turn off all appliances at home all week - leaving nothing on standby

I'll use the paper recycling bin in the office as scrap paper rather than getting a new pad from the cupboard

I'll stay with family who live closer to work for two nights to cut down on the fuel consumption of my usual 70 mile round trip commute

11 March 2011

I have booked the week off work, so will not be making the 60 mile round trip to work each day, and will therefore not pump 50 litres worth of petrol fumes into the air during the week.
