The boat safari
Baboons move with a certain rhythm and style, almost as if they were thoroughbred race horses. They kept us company as we passed the swamp on the way to the lake. Our driver kept stopping the jeep to point out various birds which I am not to familiar with, though some of the other travellers on the jeep were on first name terms with them. A crocodile crashed into the water near our boat and it felt like he or she was watching us out of the corner of its eye, waiting for us to fall in or be silly enough to test the water with our hand. Bang! A flying fish landed in the boat and the amount of noise we made was enough for our guide to think English people are crazy. After the excitement quietness descended over the boat and I really began to see the remarkable way different creatures can live side by side when they need to. Hippopotamus were in the water and on land, drinking along side Giraffes, Elephants, birds and buffalos. This was nature at its finest hour and also at its cruellest, because as we left the lake in search of the Lion we came across a baby buffalo that was dying of thirst and there was nothing we could do except let it wait to be eaten as night falls.
