An Amazing Adventure
A truly fantastic holiday and what an adventure. There were so many highlights that it is impossible to detail them all, the tranquillity of being poled through the Okavango in Mokoro's where there seemed as much wildlife joining us in the Mokoro's as was seen from them, some beautiful frogs which landed on your knee to slightly less beautiful spiders and mantis but great fun.
Camping wild in the Okavango, Moremi and Savuti is an experience of a lifetime, to watch Hyena prowl the camp whilst dining around the fire is slightly scary but to be woken in the middle of the night by the growling whoop of one right outside your tent is the most scary thing ever and then to listen to it chewing for the next hour only feet away...and with the constant sound of Lions roaring, and Elephant and Hippo passing through the camp whilst you lie in your tent how else would you want to experience the true Africa.
The wildlife is truly amazing– highlights included a total of 7 different Leopards, one right by the vehicle and one somewhat closer by our tent!!! A lion pride stalking a Kudu was so tense, thankfully the Kudu escaped, Honey Badgers right by our camp in Torch light, so many Elephants including a stand off with a young Elephant who refused to let us pass and a huge party drinking and bathing in the Savuti Channel.
Victoria Falls is an awesome sight, unspoilt and rather wet experience, with the most water for 17 years in Botswana the Zambezi didn’t lack for power. Walking with Lions was amazing and one of the children’s favourite memories where else could you get the chance to stroke a lion and at 6 months they are pretty big. The people were extremely friendly, the guides fantastic, their experience, knowledge and driving abilities absolutely first rate.
Chobe Lodge was a great relief after all the rough camping and a great way to move to the end of the holiday, the wildlife cruise was amazing, crossing the Chobe was an experience and a half and the starlet nights…wow you could sit for hours and just watch the stars, satellites and shooting stars in an amazing night sky well as long as you kept your eyes off the Hyenas…
