About yourself

In my 20’s I quit my city job in London to go travelling for a year. It was one of the best things I have ever done and it was quite literally life changing (I fell in love with my husband whilst away)! On my return I wanted to work in a place passionate about travel and I found The Adventure Company. In the first few years my husband and I went on short haul family trips with my stepson Liam and enjoyed incredible long haul adult trips. I now have 2 young children aged 1 and 3 and my long haul travelling days are on hold, but we can’t wait for the girls to get old enough to join us on Infant Morocco!

What do you love most about your job?

I love planning trips, whether it is for me or for someone else. It is so exciting helping someone choose a trip of a lifetime. I really enjoy helping encourage and reassure parents to join us. I understand their concerns and it is such a pleasure to be able to talk to them honestly about my own experiences on our trips.

What is your most memorable travel experience?

Trekking to Everest Base Camp has to be my greatest travel experience. As a total non-trekker it was never a trip I would have chosen, but my husband was desperate to go. The magic of those amazing mountains will stay with me forever.

Where have you been?

Europe: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey
Middle East: Egypt and Israel
Africa: Morocco and South Africa
Asia: Hong Kong, India and Nepal
SE Asia: Borneo, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
North America: USA
C & S America: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru

Best travel tip

“Don’t forget to stop and admire the view!” When I walked the Inca trail with my friends we had a joke, whenever one of us was tired we’d say “just stopping to admire the view!” and what a view it was. I watched too many trekkers (much fitter than myself) whizzing by, hardly raising their heads to see the incredible landscape below them. The same thing happened on our Nepal trek. It’s not just about trekking – whenever you are travelling sometimes you are so focused on where you are going, you forget to look around you and see where you are.

What inspires you to travel?

I truly believe that seeing the world helps you learn more about yourself. I think it helps you build confidence and widens your view of life. It wasn’t until I stayed in a teahouse in Nepal that I learnt to appreciate running water! Now whenever I do the washing up I think of my trek to basecamp!
