- Work for us
I joined The Adventure Company early in 2010 on returning from a stint of backpacking around Asia, South East Asia, Australasia and North America. It’s my first role in the travel industry, before which I managed a local branch of a car rental company. Outside of work, I enjoy playing and watching sport; mainly football, cricket and golf.
What do you love most about your job?
As with any job, having a great team around you and enjoying the company of the people you work with are essential to enjoying your work. On top of that, I get to talk to people every day who are excited about going on some amazing holidays.
What is your most memorable travel experience?
Camel trekking into the Thar desert in India, spending the night under the stars, and then sitting on top of a sand dune the following morning watching the sun rise, changing the colour of the sands as it went.
Where have you been?
I'm lucky enough to have visited 27 countries to date; India, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Borneo, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Japan, USA, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Latvia, Italy, Greece, Malta, Morocco, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Best travel tip
If you’re taking a backpack, keep your items in separate bags within it – one for clean clothes, one for dirty clothes, one for toiletries, etc., etc. That way you can just take out the bag you need instead of having to dig through all your belongings to find what you’re after.
What inspires you to travel?
The landscapes, the wildlife, the architecture, and most of all the people and the culture. Whenever I’m travelling I always find myself asking how the people and the places I visit developed in their individual ways to become how they are now, often so different from what we have come to accept as the norm back home.
Which Adventure Company trips have you been on?
Mount Toubkal Trek (code MO), in June 2010, and Johannesburg to the Cape (code SA) in November 2011.
Which Adventure Company trip is on your wanderlust?
Many! Particular favourites though would be the Gorilla Trails in Uganda (code UL), the Delta & Dunes in Namibia (NB) and the China Adventure trip (ICB). Oh, and the Galapagos Islands!
