Job Title

Finance Director

About yourself

I’m Australian by nationality but have been in England for 10 years now. Since qualifying 20 years ago, I’ve worked predominately in two countries, Australia and the UK, although I have been involved in projects based in NZ, Singapore and India. Local interests include Canoeing expeditions, archery and general outdoor activities.

What do you love most about your job?

What we sell. The adventure company certainly doesn’t sell widgets. What we do sell is a, growing in popularity, form of adventure/holiday experience. Although TAC is owned by TUI Travel PLC, a publicly listed company, The adventure company itself is only a mid sized firm which means we can implement any changes within the company quickly. I particularly enjoy working for a dynamic and constantly evolving company.

What is your most memorable travel experience?

A 30 day classic car rally around India and Nepal.  Touring 5000km over a 30 day period, actually driving 23 of those days.  Just completing this rally was a personal achievement. If you’ve ever driven any real distance in India you realize that cars don’t break down, bits just break off. Not many people can say they’ve driven a car 50 miles with nothing but the hand brake, or that without working rear shock absorbers the car gradually will get into a rolling motion to the point where eventually the rear wheels will lift of the ground.

Where have you been?

India (many times - even worked there for 4 months on a systems implementation project), Australia, New Zealand (Just the north Island), Singapore (a unique city) and many places in Europe (e.g. France. Spain, Andorra, Czech republic, Holland, Switzerland).

Best travel tip

If travelling to India, buy from an Indian chemist their version of Lucas Aid. It comes in a packet and you just add water. It will replenish you with all the electrolytes you lose whilst perspiring. It really helps.

What inspires you to travel?

Historically I always just wanted to experience new cultures however having tried an Adventure Company Holiday I realize I can do that whilst also meeting new people and getting exercise in the process (be it walking, Mountain Biking, Dog Sledding, White water rafting).

Which Adventure Company  trip is on your wanderlust?

Tatras Winter Adventure (SM). I would really like to try Dog sledding. I think it would be a great way to see the country side.
