Born Free

Born Free Foundation

The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity that helps animals in need around the world through animal rescues, anti-poaching, support for animal sanctuaries, endangered species conservation, education and public awareness.

Stopping the exploitation of wild animals in captivity is also a priority, and Born Free investigates, exposes and seeks to resolve cases of captive animal suffering and neglect.  Born Free is on the front line of animal welfare; our high-profile and dynamic campaigns take effective action, change public attitudes, inform and persuade decision-makers, and get results time and again.

The Foundation works closely with local rural communities that live alongside wildlife to help encourage greater tolerance and understanding, while at the same time, delivering real benefits to disadvantaged people in developing countries.  Together we find compassionate solutions so people and wildlife can live together without conflict.

Born Free works in partnership with The Adventure Company to enhance the sustainability of responsible tourism and, through the establishment and implementation of industry Codes of Conduct, seeks to positively influence those aspects of travel that affect people and animals, whether in captivity or in the wild.

How we are working with Born Free Foundation

'We donate US$5 for every client that books to go to Uganda. This is to support the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee project (which is included on most of our Uganda itineraries) and also Born Free's Great Apes Survival Project. Hopefully this will help the great work of Born Free to continue in the increasingly difficult struggle to save Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Orang-utan worldwide.

The Adventure Company is proud of its responsibility to animals and does not knowingly offer any excursions or encourage any behaviour that could be considered to involve cruelty to animals or that could be detrimental to local wildlife or the environment. However if you do see anything that could be considered cruel, Born Free’s Travellers’ Animal Alert initiative responds to the concerns of individual holiday-makers by taking action and seeking to prevent animal suffering.  Animal Alert investigates neglect, fights cruelty and works with tour operators, travel companies, foreign governments and other organisations to take positive action and help improve animals’ lives.  Together we investigate notorious facilities, ensure public concerns are addressed, and phase out exploitative activities
